Sep 12 2017 - Hell's Canyon

Today we are off for drive around Hells Canyon.  We leave the trailer at the RV park as this is essentially a long loop.  Its going to take all day.   Here is a bit of a map

It start off as flat agricultural land.  Can you guess the main crop around here?

Try backing that up....
First stop s the little town of  Elgin.  We end up at the fine 1912 Opera House.  Quite a grand building for such a small town.  Someone was inside so we got the tour.  Turns out it still a very popular and  busy place - and people come from miles around.

Enterprise courthouse

Wallowa Lake

And then we start climbing.  When we get to the top we are rewarded with this view

The snake river is down there somewhere - lets go find it!

Ah there it is - beautiful!

All of that calm water is held up by a dam of course
The other side of the dam looks more like this   (there are often bears on the other side of the river)

One last look as we climb back out

Then a race to get home before it get dark or rains
Nearly made it. Car needed washing anyway!
