Sep 19 2017 - Fruita,CO to Ouray,CO

Before we hook up - we take a spin up the Colorado National Monument
We have to be back to the campsite by 11AM to checkout so we are hustling.
Its not a long drive - but it has plenty of wiggles and turnouts to go "ooh" and "aah" in.
If you ever need to find a small park that offers a representative slice through the states geology,  fantastic views and easy hikes - this is it.

After rushing back to the campground and hooking up (we were only about half an hour late) we head towards Ouray - but not by the quickest route.  We chose to head Southwest first on highway 141 then that 62 into Ouray.   Its a very pretty and quiet route,

141 turns southeast at the tiny town of Gateway.  That is where we found this great piece of rock.

We then start following the Dolores river.  About halfway to the junction with highway 62, there is evidence of an old hanging flume. This was used for just a few years in the 1880s as part of the gold mining operations.  It could carry 80 million gallons of water a day.  That's quite a lot  Read all about it here

Finally we roll into Ouray just as the sun is setting.
Great town to walk around and just admire the wonderful setting.

Indeed!
