First stop the town of
Anaconda . Splendid name. There was (is) a massive copper smelter here and lots of money in it heyday. They even tried to be the State Capital for a while.
Now its mostly quiet - but with a great courthouse. (we love these)
Further up the road we stumbled into a great lake - well it would have been great if there were less smoke.

And later we found the great little town of Philipsburg. It was packed with Sunday shoppers and eaters enjoying the last full day of opening before they slow down for Winter. This town has got it right. Every shop/restaurant was open and buzzing. None of this closed-on-Sunday nonsense. On the way into town we drove past a field full of silver tents. We didn't understand at that time that these were smoke-jumpers - based here to help with firefighting. There were many "thank you firefighters" signs around town - I think they were being looked after.

This was going up hill drafting a large tanker truck....
Finally to Ronan. What a pretty visitor center. It was closing in about an hour until next spring. What great timing.....
